About Us:
L&L Shell Crafts specializes in unique seashell mirrors, tables, and other items to bring a tropical touch to your home. Formed in 2005, the company is owned by Lawrence Steinert and his wife Leslie (thus L&L). All work is handcrafted at our unique seashell art studio which is located in Prairieville, Louisiana (suburban Baton Rouge).
By trade, Lawrence is a property/casualty actuary. As a collector of seashells, he has figured out how to obtain many of the most beautiful seashells in the world at the most economical cost. And as a mathematician, he has extended his geometrical talents to arranging these shells permanently on mirrors, furniture, and other items.
We begin with a brand new manufactured mirror, table, or other base for the project. First the paint goes on. The seashell selection, arrangement, and glueing/handcrafting are of course the heart of the work. Lastly, each piece is finished with two coats of lacquer for a glossy, stunning look.
All mirrors are beveled unless otherwise called for by our client. In addition, all mirrors are ready to hang.
Unlike many other seashell crafts, we believe our finished products exhibit artist quality with attention to detail in their choices of seashell types, shapes, colors, quality, and overall symmetry. These decorative and functional pieces will add a light, colorful, tropical touch to your home – especially your foyer or great room. Or master bathroom.
Our clients always ask, "Where do you get the seashells?" Our seashells are imported from the Philippines, China, and other parts of the world. They are collected by divers long before they make it to the beach in beat-up and dead condition. Most of our seashells come to us on a wholesale basis. For a given project, we hand-pick seashells that are the best-quality, most attractive, and most exotic seashells that are available to us at reasonable cost. And we match up the seashells carefully for creating symmetric design and uniform sequences.
